A Brief History

A Brief History

THETRAY.SHOP began with a random comment from my mother, Viola, during a weekly FaceTime call.

I live in Australia where I’m now a citizen. Mum lives in Sweden. We’re hemispheres apart, but now use modern technology to work on product design.

My name is Rickard Vikström. I grew up near the Arctic Circle in Sweden, working with my parents in our home decorating shop.

Mum was always very creative, something my father jokingly said made more work for him. When she suggested we make some trays together, it was very random! But — not at all unlike her, so I wasn’t surprised. She’s full of good ideas like this.

She’d discovered textile designs by Swedish brand Kinnamark. They work with Scandinavian designers to create stunning textiles. Mum thought we should collaborate with them, and a Swedish tray maker, to create hand-crafted, wooden trays with embedded pieces of textiles to bring to Australia.
Her idea turned into what is now THETRAY.SHOP.
We work with designers to create exclusive THETRAY.SHOP collections of trays and matching accessories. We also source the globe to find brilliant trays by other great brands, including Jamida of Sweden and Berså.
