At THETRAY.SHOP, we believe a tray is more than just something to carry your coffee on—it’s a piece of practical art that brings beauty and functionality into your home, every single day.
We source and design beautiful, handcrafted trays from Sweden, made using sustainable birchwood and finished with a protective melamine coating to ensure durability and ease of cleaning. Every tray we sell is designed to last, with quality and craftsmanship you can see and feel.
Whether you use it to serve guests, style a coffee table, or enjoy breakfast in bed, our trays are made to be as useful as they are beautiful.
Our trays are available in two distinct finishes, each offering a different aesthetic and texture. No matter the finish, every tray is handcrafted in Sweden using FSC-certified birchwood and a protective melamine layer to withstand heat, spills, and daily use.
Printed Paper Finish
This is our classic tray, where carefully selected designs—from Scandinavian brands to Australian artists like BellArt, and UK designers including Michael Angove and Emma J Shipley—are transferred onto high-quality paper, then pressed into layers of birchwood and sealed with a melamine coating. The result is a smooth, vibrant tray that’s lightweight, durable, food-safe, and dishwasher-proof.
Embedded Fabric Finish
In this design, actual fabric is carefully cut by hand and embedded into the birchwood layers before sealing. Each tray carries the subtle texture and depth of woven fabric, making every piece unique. No two trays are exactly alike—there’s only one with this exact pattern placement, making yours truly one of a kind. To care for these trays, simply wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent or gentle cleaning spray.
We offer our trays in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit different uses:
Round trays – Perfect for serving drinks, cheese platters, or as a base for styling candles and décor on your coffee table. Most designs are available in 39 cm diameter (15.4 inches), with selected designs also available in 31 cm (12.2 inches), 46 cm (18.1 inches), and extra-large 65 cm (25.6 inches).
Rectangular trays – Ideal for breakfast in bed, dinner in front of the TV, or corralling kitchen essentials on a countertop. Available in two popular sizes: 27 x 20 cm (10.6 x 7.9 inches), sometimes referred to as a “tea tray”, and 34 x 44 cm (13.4 x 17.3 inches), often called a “dinner tray”.
Each shape is designed with practicality in mind, combining lightweight handling with sturdy construction. Whether you’re entertaining guests or creating quiet moments at home, our trays elevate the everyday.
Our tray table stands let you instantly transform your tray into a functional side table—perfect for small spaces, balconies, or entertaining. Designed and made in Sweden from powder-coated steel, these folding stands are crafted for both durability and style.
The stands are compatible with our round trays in 39 cm, 46 cm, and 65 cm sizes, and also work with many other tray brands in the same standard sizes, including Marimekko trays. When not in use, the stand folds flat for easy storage.
We also stock a range of carefully selected accessories to complement your tray, including matching coasters, placemats, and cushions. Many designs coordinate across products, helping you create a cohesive, stylish look in your home.
THETRAY.SHOP began with a simple idea shared on a FaceTime call between me and my mother, Viola. I grew up near the Arctic Circle in Sweden, where my family ran a home decorating shop. Mum has always had a creative spark—so when she suggested we collaborate with Swedish textile designers and tray makers to create handcrafted trays, I wasn’t surprised.
What started as a fun family project has become a way for us to bring a piece of Scandinavia to homes across Australia and beyond. We now work closely with designers and Swedish makers to offer exclusive THETRAY.SHOP collections, alongside carefully selected trays from other brilliant brands worldwide.
Each tray we sell reflects our love of thoughtful design, natural materials, and timeless functionality. We hope you love them as much as we love creating and curating them.
Are you a brand or designer looking to create your own custom tray? We love collaborating with other creatives and businesses to bring unique designs to life. We’ve partnered with brands like BellArt and Sporting Nation, as well as cultural institutions like the Art Gallery of New South Wales, producing trays for major exhibitions including Hilma af Klint, Louise Bourgeois, and Magritte.
In Sweden, it’s common for every brand to include a tray in their product range—and here in Australia, a custom tray offers a fresh, distinctive way to showcase your design or brand. Your customers will love this unique, functional piece of art.
The process is simple: you provide the design, and we take care of everything else—from production to import and logistics. Minimum order quantity is 50 trays.
